Peer Mentoring and School Connectedness
MetadataShow full item record
It has been found that students that feel connected to schools have more academic success, healthy relationships with peers and family, and positive self-images. While a student’s sense of belonging to their school depends on a number of factors, this paper investigates the impact of parental involvement and beliefs in education, opportunities for students to be involved with their school, as well as peer and teacher influences. In this capstone project I will discuss options to combat lack of school connectedness and to fuel a student’s sense of belonging and being cared for by their school. Specifically, I will propose a peer-mentoring program as a possible solution.
