Anxiety and School Transition: a Choice of Programs
MetadataShow full item record
Every year students make the transition from elementary to high school with varying degrees of success. While some students may appear unaffected by the change in schools, others struggle in their transition. Teachers and school counsellors play a significant role in helping students manage their mental health through their educational career. They can do so by assisting in identifying and developing protective factors which students can use to self-regulate. Our research includes a literature review that takes an in-depth look at the challenges that take place within a school setting when anxious feelings are involved. Our examination of three programs, Worry Taming for Teens, the FRIENDS For Life Program, and the MindUP Curriculum, results in the recommendation of a program to be used before, during, as a way of managing anxiety for students as they transition from elementary or middle school into high school.
