The Influence of Parenting Skills on Child Resilience
Abstract
This thesis discusses the influence and relationship of parenting skills on ego-resilience, parent-child relationship, and behavioural and emotional symptomology due to trauma within the family. A study design is presented for determining whether a relationship exists between these variables in an attempt to better understand the impact interpersonal violence has within the family context and how the family system can be strengthened to better cope with the negative effects trauma has on children. A comprehensive literature review is presented including supporting research and the theory behind the research question and hypothesis. A description of the tools and methods proposed to conduct the study and a discussion of possible results are also provided in this thesis.
