    Abstract
This thesis was written to explore different theoretical orientations that assist parents in selecting the most appropriate intervention for children who are using drugs and/or alcohol. The purpose of the study was to examine whether some interventions help to strengthen family connections and protect children from further substance misuse. The objective was to explore whether parents can play a role in a child’s drug and/or alcohol intervention with any degree of success. This research examined a variety of intervention strategies in an effort to qualify the most sound intervention strategies for intervention when a child is using drugs and/or alcohol.
