Integrating Bring Baby Home (BBH) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) for New Parents
Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate how Gottman’s therapy program Bringing Baby Home (BBH) combined with Johnson and Greenberg’s Emotion-focused therapy (EFT), can benefit heterosexual married couples during their transition to parenthood more so than either therapy on its own. This thesis provides a literature review outlining the challenges of the transition to biological parenthood while using the attachment theory perspective. It then summarizes EFT and BBH, followed by a proposal called When Two Become Three (W2B3), a model of therapy that integrates EFT and BBH into one treatment for couples transitioning into parenthood. This thesis concludes with a brief overview of the thesis, a discussion on the limitations of the thesis, and ending with suggestions for future research.
